An Introduction The Marvel Universe

Marvel comic books are very popular among kids, teenagers, and adults alike. One of the most famous comic book companies is Marvel, which has given the world some of the most popular and well-known superheroes. These include the X-Men, Thor, Ghost Rider, the Silver Surfer, Spider-Man, the Hulk, Captain America, and Iron Man. There are countless others, but those are the main ones that stand out and are the most popular among fans of the Marvel series.

Marvel Universe

Marvel Comics is run under the Walt Disney Company and has some of the most popular and famous characters that many people have grown up with. What’s very interesting is that most of them are very different from the others, in terms of appearance, powers, skills, likes and dislikes. There isn’t one Marvel character that is like another one, which makes it so amazing; there is literally a character for everyone and even villains at that! Whether you like the superheroes or the villains, there is someone in the Marvel Universe for you. Every character even has a different speaking style and voice, you can’t get any more unique than that!

Another amazing aspect about Marvel Comics is the universe itself! They live in a hypothetical world known as the Marvel Universe, with large cities that remind us of large American cities, such as New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago. Those settings even take part in some of the major feature films based on the Marvel Comics, such as Iron Man or The Avengers.

Marvel Comics are popular for people of all ages and they will entertain you until the cows come on. Grab yourself  a Marvel Comic book and I promise you won’t regret it!

The Beginning of Marvel Comics

Marvel Comic characters are some of the most notable and recognizable fictional characters in entertainment today. Recently there has been a large surge in superhero movies and the main characters that are being chosen are Marvel characters, such as Iron Man, the Hulk, and the rest of the Avengers. Most people don’t realize it, but there is a story behind these characters, a fairly long one at that.

It’s important to note that Marvel hasn’t always been Marvel Comics; at one point the company was known as Timely Comics, which published it’s first comic in October, 1939. This issue was about a sub-mariner named Namor and a robot who was known as the Human Torch (not the human torch of the Fantastic Four). It’s pretty interesting to note that this first issue of Marvel Comics is valued at $330,000 today, WOW! If that’s not a sign that these comics are valuable and that they are important in the comic-book culture then I don’t know what is.

MarvelMystery12Martin Goodman founded the company in 1939 and in 1941, Stanley Lieber was brought on as the interim editor. Most people won’t recognize his name, but they will recognize his pseudonym, Stan Lee, a prominent force behind Marvel who has created some of the most popular Marvel characters.

After World War 2, sales declined because superheroes were going out of style and they weren’t as popular. This prompted Marvel Comics to change gears and focus on different story-lines, such as horror, romance, and comedy. This changed during the 1960s when there was a massive revival in superhero popularity, prompted by DC’s Justice League of America. Marvel Comics had it’s own version of the Justice League, which was equally as popular, known as the Fantastic Four.

After this there was a revival in Marvel Comic characters, many that you may know today, such as Spider-Man, Iron Man, Daredevil, and the X-Men. There was quite a bit of competition at the time, but with those characters and more, Marvel declared itself as a company to be reckoned with and as one of the largest comic book companies in the world, which still stands true today.

What made Marvel Comics so different is that they put in a lot of time and effort in creating their characters. Many people are able to easily see flaws in comic book characters, but not in Marvel characters and this is because they were created so well and were so though out.

The process of telling stories via comic books has caused Marvel Comics to influence and revolutionize the industry and make people enjoy and believe in superheroes once again. They way Marvel Comics has done this is truly inspiring.

Superheroes in the Marvel Universe

Marvel Comics has created a very loyal fan base that has charmed people all over the world, children and adults alike. They have created superheroes that people look up to and admire, even ones that have boosted the morale of an entire country, such as Captain America. A lot of these superheroes have moved on from comic books to the big screen, such as Tony Stark, Thor, and Spiderman, just to name a few.

Captain America, Iron Man, and the rest of the Avengers have given great messages to people on how we can do good in the world and grow up to be patriotic to our country. They also show us the struggles of life, such as the X-Men, who were different than “normal” people. They give us hope and show us that being different isn’t a bad thing, just that most people are scared of things that are different from themselves. It’s not a stretch to say that there is a positive message in each and every Marvel Comic book.

ironman

There have been quite a few notable Marvel Characters that have gone on to become big cash cows for the company. These include the Incredible Hulk, Iron Man, the Fantastic Four, and Daredevil, which have all had major motion pictures made about them. Among movies, there have been spin off television shows, action figures, memorabilia, and more. They are extremely valuable if you are a collector as well because some of the older merchandise is actually worth thousands of dollars these days. You can find pretty much anything online related to Marvel Comics and their characters.

I for one love Marvel Comics and I hope you do too because they are a great form of entertainment for people of all ages.
